YPARD Photo-Calendar Contest – Soils through Youth’s Eyes

Soil constitutes the foundation of agriculture and thus provides us with food, fiber, feed and fuel. However, for a multiple of reasons, including modern agricultural practices, deforestation, and overgrazing, the world’s soil is at risk. For the celebration of 2015 International Year of Soils, YPARD kicks-off the “Soils through Youth’s Eyes” contest with the scope of creating a photo-calendar for 2015 to raise awareness about the importance of soils. The best 12 images will feature on the 2015 YPARD “Soils through Youth´s Eyes” photo-calendar + published on FAO Global Soil Partnership’s website! Send up to 3 pics illustrating why soil matters to info@ypard.net by 14 December, 2014& contribute with your perspective to sustainable soil management! http://bit.ly/1ukQV3G #IYS2015

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), “Half of the topsoil on the planet has been lost in the last 150 years.” Additionally, “as a result of erosion over the past 40 years, 30 percent of the world’s arable land has become unproductive.” World’s soil is at risk. This is why in preparation for the 2015 International Year of Soils YPARD kicks-off the “Soils through Youth’s Eyes” photo-calendar contest. The goal: raise awareness about the importance of soils.
